Much of the world’s attention over the past few days have been focused on the Philippines and the awful destruction there left in the wake of Typhoon Haiyon. There are many ways to give towards the relief effort that is starting to help the hundreds of thousands of people displaced and in dire conditions.
I wanted to highlight two methods today to donate today.
The first method is through this Crowdrise website from United Airlines, raising funds towards three charities which are working on relief efforts.
MileagePlus members who donate $50-$99 USD will receive 250 MileagePlus bonus award miles, members who donate $100-$249 USD will receive 500 bonus award miles and members who donate $250 USD or more will receive 1,000 bonus award miles. United Airlines Foundation will contribute up to $50,000 in total matching donations to AmeriCares, The American Red Cross and Operation USA
The second method is through ShelterBox USA. While this method does not give you any miles back as a reward, the ShelterBox team has already been down on-the-ground helping with the situation. ShelterBox is an international relief agency that provides emergency relief in the form of shelter, warmth, and dignity. Many of the displaced people do not have access to clean water or shelter at the moment–both critical needs, along with food. While many other agencies and groups are donating food and medical care, ShelterBox ensures that people have the shelter and clean water access they need to get back on their feet. I chose to highlight this particular relief agency because I actively volunteer with them in my free time, and am familiar with the life saving work they do. I also know with certainty that any donation you make at the link below will go directly towards the Typhoon Haiyon relief efforts.
